Are bloodworms (red mosquito larvae) a dangerous food?

Some aquarists believe that live bloodworms are able to eat their way through the frog's stomach or intestines. This might be possible if the stomach fluid is not acid enough to kill the bloodworms. Other aquarists believe that the hooks on bloodworms' skin can damage the frogs internally. There is also the theory that too many bloodworms can cause an intestinal blockage.
Personally, I avoid feeding bloodworms too often as I believe it will cause the frogs to swell up (I call them "balloon" frogs) or float.

Are Tubifex worms a dangerous food?

Tubifex worms can be collected or bred in dirty water because they live in the mud at the bottom of ponds. They are farmed commercially in the aquarium trade.

My fish eat all of the food before my frogs can get to it. What can I do?

A lot of aquarium hobbyists feed their fish only flaked or pelleted food. Some fish have never eaten frozen or live food before so they are immediately attracted to the frozen food, which means that the frogs have to compete with the fish for it.
Feed flaked or pelleted food to the fish about 30 minutes before you feed the frogs.
The problem can also be overcome successfully by defrosting the frozen food first. It will then sink quickly.
Also, you can try letting the defrosted food drop into well-planted regions of the tank. A lot of fish are unable to get food that is between leaves and rocks..

How do I feed frozen food?

Some aquarists, like myself, put frozen food directly into the tank.
Others defrost the food first and wash it with tap water. This is to minimise the risk of organic and chemical pollutants.
An advantage of defrosting the food first is that you can add vitamin preparations to it. You can get special vitamin gel for this purpose.
